International Assistant Program
The purpose of the International Assistant Program (IAP) is to assist international students to integrate into both American culture and the Merrimack College community. This is done by pairing international students new to Merrimack (both incoming first year students as well as transfer students) with upperclassmen Merrimack students, titled International Assistants (IAs). This pairing meets in an informal setting at least twice a month so that the international students can talk to their IA about how they are adjusting to life at Merrimack and for the IA to be a resource for their international student. It also allows both students to gain a better appreciation for the other’s culture and to gain intercultural competency.
The International Assistant Program is overseen by the Graduate Fellow of International Programs and is supported by a student Senior International Assistant. The SIA’s work includes coordinating summer and winter International Student Orientation, ensuring that all IAs are actively participating in both International and New Student Orientations, organizing cultural activities throughout the school year for international students and IAs to enjoy, and serving as a resource for IAs on how to best help their international students. The SIA is hired for a twelve-month period beginning in June and ending the following May.
Fall International Student Orientation applications must be submitted by January 29th
