The 10th Annual Robert D Keohan Book Fund and Lecture Series.
February 21, 2014
The 10th Annual Robert D. Keohan Book Fund and Lecture Series presented a lecture entitled “From the Isles of Shoals to Cape Cod: Writers on the New England Shore” by Professors Paul Vatalaro and Geraldine Branca on February 21 in the Writers House. This year’s lecture centered on four new book fund purchases, Celia Thaxter’s Among the Isles of Shoals (1873), Henry Beston’s Outermost House (1936 ed.), John Hay’s Great Beach (1963), and Robert Finch’s Common Ground (1981). The book fund, which is supported by an annual gift from Associate Professor Robert Keohan, permits the purchase of special editions useful in the English Department’s curriculum. This year’s purchases support Professor Vatalaro’s new, field-based seminar, ENG4102 The New England Shore. Prior purchases include a first edition of T. S. Eliot’s poems, an illustrated edition of Leslie Marmon Silko’s Rain, a facsimile of The Luttrell Psalter, and the original monthly installments of Charles Dicken’s Our Mutual Friends.
