Alpha Kappa Delta - International Sociology Honor Society
The Department of Sociology & Criminology is the Phi chapter (Region I) of Alpha Kappa Delta (AKD), the International Sociology Honor Society. Our chapter was formed in 2006. The eminent sociologist Emory Bogardus founded AKD in 1920. Today, AKD has roughly 500 chartered chapters in seven countries. All of them, including our Department’s, share one purpose: “To investigate humanity for the purpose of service.”
Dr. McQueeney and Dr. DeCesare are the AKD chapter representatives for the 2012-13 academic year.
Student Association of Sociology and Criminology (SASC)
Originally constituted in 1997, the Student Association of Sociology became the Student Association of Sociology and Criminology in 2012. Its purpose is to build a greater sense of community within the Department of Sociology & Criminology by establishing closer relationships both between faculty and students, and among students who major and minor in Sociology and Criminology. The SASC sponsors campus events, students’ attendance at academic conferences, community service projects, and social events.
Dr. Aiello is the SASC advisor for the 2012-13 academic year.
