Midnight Madness

October 16, 2012
Blue and gold confetti flooded the air as Warrior spirit soared in Hammel Court last Friday evening.  The stands in the gym were filled to capacity as students displayed their enthusiasm for Merrimack armed with yellow rally towels and clad in Merrimack-inspired attire.

“I thought the event was a huge success,” said Katie Ganser, President of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee.

This was Merrimack’s first Midnight Madness, an event that kicks off basketball season at colleges across the country, and a new tradition to the Merrimack College community.

“Our goal was to hit a home run the first time around, and we definitely did!  Next year, emerging student leaders across campus will have a template and can aim for the grand slam!” said Ganser.

Enthusiasm for the event ran so high that the give away, a midnight madness t-shirt, was completely out of stock by the 10:30 p.m. start time of the event.

“It was simply overwhelming to see such a great turnout of students!” said Kathy Vaillancourt, Assistant Director of Experiential Learning, who attended the event last week.

The event highlighted the men’s and women’s basketball teams with activities such as a slam-dunk contest and a three-point shoot-out versus faculty and staff.

“The basketball teams work very hard, both on and off the court, and they deserved this night to shine!” said Vaillancourt.

The sense of pride and enthusiasm felt during the evening was truly contagious and apparent throughout the entire Merrimack Community.
