Brought to you by The O’Brien Center for Student Success
Helena Berbano is a senior majoring in Political Science and double minoring in Theatre Arts and Religious/Theological Studies at Merrimack. She has been involved in a plethora of organizations and programs on Merrimack’s campus including A.L.A.N.A., Concert Choir, OnStagers Dramatic Society, Omicron Delta Kappa (the Leadership Honor Society), and the Writing Center. Meanwhile, she has taken advantage of professional internship opportunities to prepare her for a future career in Public Affairs. All the while, she has been a mainstay on the Political Science Dean’s List.
Berbano took advantage of leadership opportunities at Merrimack as she has served as Vice President of African, Latino, Asian, and Native American Association (A.L.A.N.A.). In this position Berbano worked with multiple facets of the organization. She recruited and supervised student volunteers and promoted student cultural awareness through social events.
In addition to Berbano’s involvement on campus, she has been in and out of Government Offices since 2010. She has interned at the Massachusetts State House, Deval Patrick, and most recently, congresswoman Niki Tsongas. In keeping with her active persona, Berbano assists in constituent services, such as responding to constituent inquiries via the telephone, letters, e-mail, or in person for Tsongas’ office. In this role, she also communicates with government and non-government agencies in order to aid constituents.
Berbano recognized the importance of extracurricular involvement and internship experiences in preparing for a professional career. As such, she has put herself in an excellent position to continue working in Public Affairs well beyond graduation.
