MackApps Email (powered by Google) is the college’s official communications medium.

Student MackApps accounts are created automatically after initial enrollment. Student accounts will be deleted after withdrawal, dismissal, three unenrolled terms, or six months after graduation.

Employee MackApps accounts are created automatically following entry into the Human Resources database. Employee account access is removed on the last day of employment.

MackApps Account passwords are managed via the Password Management Service.

Email Alias

(Also known as: vanity address)

Eligible: Students, Employees
Availability: 24 Hours, Daily
Support: Monday - Thursday, 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m.
                Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
                Sunday, 4:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.

An Email Alias permits email to flow into a mailbox via an alternate address. Each student and employee has an email alias in the form firstname.lastname@merrimack.edu.

An Email alias is often used as a semi-permanent web or print-published address that does not change. The address can be moved from employee to employee as roles change.

Aliases also allow users known exclusively by a nickname unrelated to their given name to be more easily identified.

Sample use:

Webmaster@merrimack.edu is an alias assigned to someone who handles comments about the college web site.

Howard “Rusty” Thompson might have an alias called Rusty.Thompson@merrimack.edu.

Email Groups

(Also known as: mailing lists, Listserv)

Eligible: Students, Employees
Availability: 24 Hours, Daily
Support: Monday - Thursday, 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m.

                Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
                Sunday, 4:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.

An Email Group permits email to be sent to a group of email addresses via one convenient address. Subsequent replies can be directed to the sender or back to the whole list—facilitating an email conversation.

Sample uses:

The All Employees group permits only authorized senders to send email to all college employees.

All members of the closed-membership SGA Reps group can post messages and replies to the group.

Archived messages allow new group members to get up to speed quickly.

Restrictions:  Each group must have an individual responsible for monitoring the group and managing membership

Groups are available for student organizations recognized by the SGA

Off-campus group members must explicitly ask for group membership (opt-in).
