October 23, 2013
What happens when a great poetic voice joins force with jazz improvisations?  Find out on October 30 when U.S. Poet Laureate Robert Pinsky teams up with musicians Laurence Hobgood and Stan Strickland for an evening of poetry and jazz at Merrimack College, Austin Hall, Our Mother of Good Counsel Chapel, 2nd floor. (The location is wheelchair accessible.)  Note: Seating is limited.

The performance is sponsored by the Writers House at Merrimack.  A new initiative, the Writers House is dedicated to creative writing, reading, and thinking, for students, faculty, alumni, and the community at large.  The PoemJazz event, beginning at 7:00 p.m., is FREE and OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.

At a recent ribbon cutting, Merrimack President Christopher Hopey noted that the Writers House is the first of its kind in New England.  The bright, inviting space, located in the new Academic Innovation Center (on Cullen Avenue) will host readings and talks by fiction writers, poets, journalists, scholars, filmmakers, engineers, business leaders, and more.

The Writers House will also sponsor collaborative programs through which Merrimack College students can get involved with local schools and nonprofits.
