Merrimack again named a top college in North

U.S. News & World Report today released its Best Colleges 2016 guidebook and ranked Merrimack a Top 10 college in the United States' North region for the fifth year in a row.

For the second year in a row, Merrimack ranked ninth on a list of 363 regional colleges.

Merrimack also made the list of Best Undergraduate Engineering and Best Colleges for Veterans, coming in at No. 5 in the North region.

The region ranges from the mid-Atlantic states to Pennsylvania, New York and New England.

Rankings for regional colleges are based on weighted factors for academic excellence. In the U.S. News methodology, an assessment of excellence by peers, as well as graduation and retention rates, carried the heaviest considerations in the rankings, followed by available faculty resources.

U.S. News & World Report considers regional colleges as schools that draw heavily from their own and neighboring states for students. The magazine also cited the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education to define them as schools that focus on liberal arts, business, education and nursing degrees.

In other recent notable recognitions, Money Magazine ranked Merrimack 21 out of more than 600 for “adding value” to students’ degrees; and The Princeton Review named Merrimack among the “Best of the Northeast” in its “2016 Best Colleges: Region by Region.”
