#6 Field Hockey Selected to 2015 NCAA Tournament

After posting a 14-5 record on the season including four victories over ranked opponents, the sixth-ranked Merrimack College field hockey team has earned an at-large selection to the 2015 NCAA Division II Field Hockey Tournament for the fourth time in the last five years, as announced during the Selection Show on Monday afternoon.

“We are grateful to the selection committee for selecting us to the tournament, and we are honored to be playing against a tough Adelphi opponent” said head coach Anne Rounce. “The NCAA Tournament experience is one we try and make sure every player that is associated with our program will get to be a part of. We are thrilled to be back in the mix, and we will definitely have to work hard this week to prepare for Adelphi.”

This selection marks the fourth time in the program’s history that the Warriors advanced to the NCAA Tournament, and the fourth time in the past five seasons. the Warriors, who closed out the regular season with a record of 13-4 and advanced to the Northeast-10 Conference Championship Semifinals, earned the second seed in the East Region and will host NE-10 foe and fourth-ranked and third-seeded Adelphi University on Saturday night for a first round matchup. The Panthers finished the regular season with a record of 14-4, earning the first seed in the NE-10 Championships and a trip to the NE-10 Semifinals. The Warriors won the lone meeting between these two teams this season by a score of 1-0 in North Andover back on Oct. 23 on Senior Day.

The winner will advance to the NCAA Semifinals, where they will play fellow NE-10 school and first seed in the East Region Stonehill, who won the 2015 NE-10 Championship. The Skyhawks finished the regular season 11-6 before upsetting Adelphi and Assumption in the NE-10 Championship on their way to the title.
