Honoring Those Who Served By Serving Others

This academic year, Father Ray and the Division of Mission and Student Affairs would like to establish a new tradition to honor all fallen veterans called “Mack Gives Back Day.”

The day will take place on Saturday, November 10 from 12 p.m. until 4 p.m. Given that the birthday of St. Augustine on November 13 and Veteran’s Day on November 11 coincide, this day of service will give the Merrimack community the chance to honor both our Augustinian tradition and commemorate all those who have served.

Campus Ministry and the Stevens Service Learning Center will arrange for service sites and transportation to and from the campus.  Clubs, teams, sororities and fraternities, departments and even sections of academic courses are encouraged to participate. Individuals are also welcome to volunteer to serve that day and will be assigned to service sites as appropriate.  The service sites will be similar to those the first year students served through “MerrimAction.”

Following the day of service, a dinner will be served in Sparky’s Place to honor all veterans as well as those who have sacrificed their time to serve the common good such as the Peace Corps, AmeriCorps, Teach for America, and the Augustinian Volunteers. The day will conclude with a hockey game against the University of Connecticut and a birthday party in honor of St. Augustine.

If you are a Military Veteran or have served in any of the above capacities, please contact Bev Lavallee at ext. 5217 or lavalleeb@merrimack.edu. More information about this day will be coming soon but please mark your calendars with this important date!
