Michael E. Shunney
Mike joined The Advocator Group as President and Chief Operating Officer in 2014 after working for several months with the company as a strategic leadership consultant through his advisory firm Shunney and Associates, LLC. Prior to that, Mr Shunney spent 20 years as a senior executive with Sun Life Financial, including roles as P&L leader of their Employee Benefits Group and President of U.S. Distribution. His expertise in financial services includes business strategy, particular knowledge in distribution & sales, profit building, mergers & acquisitions, and organizational development. He is known for recognizing and rewarding talent and instilling strong competitive drive in team members to achieve organizational success.
Mr Shunney graduated from Merrimack in 1980, earning a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He has also completed course work on leading change, innovation and financial management at Harvard, Wharton and Duke. In addition to serving as Trustee, Mr Shunney currently serves on advisory boards at Mobile Health Consumer (corporate health management technology) and Assist America (global emergency travel assistance provider), and on the Board of Directors for the Doug Flutie Jr. Autism Foundation.
