The Reverend William T. Garland, O.S.A.
Fr. Garland has recently completed two four-year terms on the leadership team of the Augustinian Province of St. Thomas of Villanova as Councilor for Education. He served for two five-year terms on the Board of Trustees at Villanova University and for two four-year terms as Prior of Our Mother of Good Counsel Monastery at Merrimack. He remains Treasurer of that Community while currently enjoying “Senior Friar” ministry in the Province.
From 1996-2001, Fr. Garland was director of education for the Diocese of Fall River, Massachusetts. His duties included serving as the chief educational officer for the Diocese with oversight responsibility for the programs, services and staffing for the 27 elementary and 4 secondary schools sponsored by the Diocese. Prior to the 1996 Fall River appointment, Fr. Bill served as Superintendent of Schools for the Diocese of Manchester, New Hampshire, for a number of years, with 24 elementary and 3 secondary schools under his supervision.
Fr. Garland’s prior experience also includes 20 years of teaching and administration in both public and private sectors. Fr. Bill has taught courses as diverse as financial planning for Catholic school administrators at Emmanuel College in Boston and classical language and literature during summer sessions at Villanova University. Following the completion of his doctoral program at Harvard, Fr. Garland was employed for 5 years as a full-time staff consultant in the management sciences division of the Cambridge-based consulting firm of Arthur D. Little, Inc.
Fr. Garland holds a Bachelor’s degree from Villanova University; two Master’s degrees (one from the Augustinian College (DC) and the other from Catholic University of America); as well as a Certificate of Advanced Studies (C.A.S.) and a doctorate in educational administration from Harvard University.
