Network Infrastructure & Storage

(Also known as: Campus Network, DNS, DHCP, VLAN)

Eligible: Students, Employees
Availability: 24 Hours, Daily
Support: Monday - Thursday, 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m.
                Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
                Sunday, 4 p.m. - 10 p.m.

The Campus Network Infrastructure provides network connectivity for all campus computing resources. Most rooms and offices on campus have a high-speed network connection dedicated to a particular segment of the network (VLAN). Inter-VLAN traffic is enabled as necessary.

The Domain Name System (DNS) provides easy-to-remember names for computers on the network (Ex., blackboard.merrimack.edu).

Network Storage

(Also known as: H: drive, S: drive, SAN)

Eligible: Students, Employees
Availability: 24 Hours, Daily
Support: Monday - Thursday, 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m.
                Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
                Sunday, 4:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.

Network Storage provides users with secure and reliable centralized disk storage on the campus network. This disk storage is usually accessible by authorized users from any computer on campus.

(NB: Your Google Drive may be a better alternative in many cases.)

Sample uses:

All students and employees have network storage available for their exclusive use (H: drive).

Most departments have a shared S: drive setup to share files with other authorized users.
