Assistant Professor - Language & Literacy
Merrimack College’s School of Education invites applications for a tenure track assistant professor position in Language and Literacy and/or Special Education, to begin in the fall of 2013. The successful candidate will teach core licensure courses in their area of expertise across undergraduate and graduate programs, supervise student-teachers, and perform standard duties including student advisement, serve on departmental and college committees, and engage in scholarly activities. The successful candidate will have an earned doctorate in Language & Literacy or a closely related discipline; teaching experience in both K-12 and higher education; an active research agenda; and a commitment to the values and principles of excellence, equity, and engagement at the heart of the School of Education. The ideal candidate will have K-12 experience with children with special needs, a strong background in (second) language acquisition issues, and familiarity with Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) standards to support the new regulations of the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
The School of Education offers over two dozen licensure and non-licensure academic programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including new undergraduate majors in Human Development and STEM Education and new graduate programs in Higher Education and Community Engagement. The School of Education also houses the Center for Engaged Democracy, The Graduate Institute for Education, and the Center for Youth and Families.
