The central research focus of the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning is on the science of learning. The CETL will develop new knowledge on the learning modalities of today’s college students, and the myriad cultural, social and religious influences that inform their learning processes.
To accomplish this, the CETL will:
- Support a program of sponsored research to analyze, adopt and develop best practices in teaching that draw on a scientific understanding of how students learn
- Through sponsored research, facilitate a multidisciplinary faculty dialogue that draws on internal and external expertise in cognitive and developmental psychology, sociology, higher education, diversity, human development and technology to help faculty understand the diversity of learning styles from the inside out
CETL’s research activities are managed by a Faculty Fellow, appointed annually from within the College’s tenured ranks, with the charge of leading the Center’s efforts on research, assessment, adaptation, and adoption efforts of best practices.
