Professor Meegan was a teacher of History and A.P. Psychology, lead teacher, adjustment counselor, Social Studies Dept. Chair, and Director of Guidance, Health Education and Health Services at Masconomet Regional School District, Boxford, MA, for 41 years. During that time, he developed and advised an award winning Model United Nations Team, served as a class advisor, and advisor to the National Honor Society and Student Council.
He also worked part time as a prison psychologist and continues as a Diversion Counselor for the Essex County District Attorney. Additionally, he was President of the Mass. Council for Social Studies (and continues as a member of the board of directors), President of the Northeast Council of Teachers of High School Psychology, and President of the North of Boston Social Studies Supervisors Association. He served as convention chair before being elected to the position of Secretary-Treasurer of Division One, The Society of General Psychology, of the American Psychological Association. He was a certified Psychological Counselor, and former Director of Counseling at the Franciscan Christian Formation Center in Andover.
Recently, Meegan served on the Massachusetts State Senate’s Committee on Education, Commission on Civic Engagement. His personal interests lie in the areas of Creative and Critical Thinking as well as Humanistic and Spiritual Psychology. In addition to his work as an adjunct at Merrimack College, he has been a guest lecturer in Clinical Psychology at UMass, Amherst, lecturing in Eastern Approaches to Psychotherapy. He was also one of the writers for the Social Studies Frameworks for the Mass. Dept. of Education and for the MTEL test for Certification in Political Science.
