Engineering Management


What is Engineering Management?
Engineering Management is the degree that “bridges the gap” between engineering and management and it is the degree that enables a graduate to work with and through people to get things done. Specifically, this degree provides graduates with both technical and managerial skills. The degree, in essence combines a typical engineering education (technical) with key elements of a typical management or business education (managerial).

Why study?
Our degree is unique among typical engineering disciplines in that it combines traditional engineering course work with course work typically taken in pursuit of a business or management degree. What does that mean? In general it means exceptional starting and future salaries; exciting, challenging and rewarding career opportunities in a wide variety of industries and companies; and, more importantly, it means you will be choosing to study in a discipline that has a long history in pursuit of the betterment of society. When you choose to study Engineering Management, you are able to add the business, management and people side to the basic engineering equation. You will work with people, organizations, business cultures, systems integration and problem solving. 

Where would I work after graduation?
Engineering Management graduates work in project engineering, plant engineering, information technology, sales engineering, engineering administration and many others. Well known companies who employ Engineering Management students include: Boeing, Ford, Hallmark Cards, Anheuser Busch, General Electric Sprint, IBM and American Express. 

What does the program cover?
The MSE provides a holistic, systems view of the various disciplines in which students may concentrate. Systems methodologies usually account for such real-world complexities as uncertainty, constraints, multiple objectives, and the relationships among the various parts or subsystems that constitute the system. They are at the core of the three specialty areas.

GEN 5101 Project Management or EEN 5265 Engineering Management and at least eight credits from the following:

GMGT 5120 World Class Operations & Supply Chain Management (2cr) GMGT 5140 Effective Managerial Communication (2cr)
GMGT 5150 Financial Measurement, Analysis and Reporting
GMGT 5160 Marketing Analysis and Decision Making
GMGT 6290 Competition, Innovation, & Strategic Advantage
