Robert D. Keohan (associate professor, M.S. in Journalism and M.A. Boston University) specializes in journalism and politics in literature. He is the longest serving faculty member on campus, having joined the faculty in 1955 at age 23. His journalism background started as a student at Merrimack as sports editor of the college newspaper, expanding as a junior and senior to what today would be the post of sports information director, something he did for 13 of the 16 years from 1951-1967. Thereafter his journalism widened from sports to community journalism for his home town paper, the Wakefield Daily Item. Since 1968, he has prepared the newspaper’s Looking Backward column, which appears Monday through Friday.
