Learning Beyond the Classroom
The Department of World Languages & Cultural Studies works closely with the Office of International Programs to provide WLC majors and minors with study abroad opportunities.
The department is actively involved in a variety of short- and long-term study abroad programs available to our students, and serves as a center for advice and assistance to students who wish to study abroad. Majors will be encouraged to spend one semester or more of foreign study in a country where the target language is spoken. The choice of study abroad program and the choice of courses to be taken there will be approved beforehand by the student’s adviser in the WLC department.
Here are semester- or year-long programs affiliated with Merrimack College, where WLC majors and minors can find a wide variety of courses taught both in the target language and in English, along with full-immersion and internship opportunities, as desired. Courses taken through Merrimack College at the following institutions will transfer in with Merrimack College credit (please contact OIP for further details):

Merrimack College also offers short-term study abroad programs to Italy and Spain with courses taught in English by Merrimack College faculty:
- Crossing Borders (Winter Session)
- San Gimignano (Summer Session)
- Pellegrinaggio to Italy (Spring Semester, with a travel component during Springbreak).
