Class of 2014
Emily plans to graduate from Merrimack College in 2014 with a major in Information Technology and a minor in Computer Engineering. She came to Merrimack after graduating from Shrewsbury High School in Shrewsbury, MA.
She chose Merrimack College because she likes access to the professors, the small school feel (as opposed to large universities), and the small class size. She picked Information Technology / Computer Engineering because of her interest in both Hardware and Software. Courses she is looking forward to taking include Data Networking and Network Security. In addition to her studies, she also enjoys video games, dog training and “pet therapy.”
When asked about this, Emily states: “I wanted to get my six year old dog and I certified because I spent a week in the hospital once and had a therapy dog come to visit me. The visit made my day and it helped me forget why I was in the hospital. To get certified I had to first take and pass a course online. The next step was to pass a basic obedience skills test which also tests the aptitude of the dog to see if he would be suited to going into unfamiliar places with weird looking equipment and noises. Volunteers during the test walked around using canes and walkers to see if the dog was afraid of them or not. After that we were then certified. I have been on a few visits so far and it is very rewarding!
After graduation she wants to work in the field of Network Security and of course, continue doing “pet therapy.”
