Katherine Kefalas, B.S.

Class of 2009
Athletic Training, Biology Minor

As President of the Sports Medicine Club at Merrimack, Katherine knows first-hand how well her involvement complements her major. She first got involved in the club her sophomore year as secretary and became vice president her junior year.

“I wanted to be involved because this club directly relates to my major,” said Katherine. “There is so much that can be done to assist me in excelling in the classroom and beyond, including attending conferences and organizing career nights through the club.”

As president, Katherine organizes meetings, keeps the club informed of upcoming events and conferences, and works directly with her advisor and Student Activities to plan events and have them run smoothly. “I am also available for the members of the club to request specific events that they would like to see throughout the year including.”

Katherine still finds time to serve the community beyond her major. To name a few, she has traveled on service trips through Alternative Spring Break, helped organize the cancer fund raiser the Relay for Life, and regularly participates in community service projects through MerrimAction.

But serving the community falls in line with her values. “I chose Merrimack because I wanted to remain at a college strong in its religious values, since I have attended Catholic schools since kindergarten. I was impressed with the campus at Merrimack and was constantly being told about the "Merrimack community."

After graduation, Katherine plans to attend graduate school in Boston for nursing, and would also like to take a service trip for nursing to a impoverished country.
