Meet the Dean
Dean of the School of Science and Engineering
Mary Noonan was appointed as Dean of the School of Science and Engineering in June of 2013. She joined the Merrimack faculty in 1980 and in 1999 founded the Department of Computer Science. She served as its chair for twelve years before her appointment as Assistant Dean of the School of Science and Engineering. Dean Noonan also served as Chair of the Mathematics/Computer Science Department and as Assistant Dean of the Division of Arts and Sciences.
Dean Noonan served on Faculty Senate Executive Committee, the Appointment Rank and Tenure Committee, and many other college-wide committees. She received her Master of Science in Mathematics/Computer Science from the University of Massachusetts Lowell and a bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from Merrimack College. She currently serves on the Advisory Board of the STEM Northeast Network and also on the Global Technology and Engineering Consortium. Dean Noonan is a member of the Association for Computing Machinery and the American Society of Engineering Education. She is a founder and member of the Board of Directors of Northmark Bank and serves on the Board of Presentation of Mary Academy in Methuen.
Dean Noonan was recently on the Merrimack College team that was awarded a National Science Foundation Grant, Foundations for STEM Success (now known as iTEC: Innovations Through Engineering and Computer Science). Through a collaborative process, the grant will assist in addressing student needs through initiatives such as; an intensive summer preparation program to increase freshman placement rates for Calculus I; a first-year mathematics supplement for the Introduction to Engineering and Computer Science course; enhanced peer and faculty mentoring; and affinity housing.
