Pi Mu Epsilon Instillation and Induction Ceremony

College officially became the established Massachusetts Lambda Chapter of Pi Mu
Epsilon and inducted 18 members into the National Mathematics Honor Societ

On October 9th, 2013 Merrimack College officially became the established Massachusetts Lambda Chapter of Pi Mu Epsilon and inducted 18 members into the National Mathematics Honor Society. Pi Mu Epsilon was founded in 1914 at Syracuse University, with the purpose of encouraging and recognizing mathematical scholarship among undergraduate and graduate students. Pi Mu Epsilon students are encouraged to present papers at local and national meetings of the Mathematical Association of America. The students who were inducted include; Amanda L. DeMarco ’13, Amanda L. Dube ’13, Caitlin E. Enright ’15, Christina M. Fisher ’13, Megan E. Folino ’14, Stephen A. Francis ’13, Marissa A. Gambale ’13,  Matthew J. Kirkham ’13, Joseph M. Mantoni ’13, Ryan McIntire ’14, Andrew A. O’Hara ’13, Matthew J. O’Neil ’14, Leah Palazola ’13, Alexandra E. Reed’15, Sarah R. Rieder ’13,  Rebecca L. Webb ’13,  Kaiduo Zheng ’16, and Xin Zhong ’13.  In order to be inducted all students had to have above a 3.0 GPA in their major, a 3.0 GPA overall, have taken Calculus II and have two other upper level math courses. The entire math faculty attended, to support and congratulate their students.  

A special thanks was given to Sarah Rieder’13, Becca Webb’13, and Dr. Laura Hall-Seeling for their time and efforts last year to complete the rigorous application process to establish the Massachusetts Lambda Chapter here at Merrimack.
