Testimonials

January 09, 2014
Community Engagement Fellows work hand-in-hand with their partner organizations to make a deep and powerful impact in the lives of the communities in which they serve.

“Having the ability to have a hands on experience has been the most important learning that I have had this year. Having a fellowship gave me the opportunity to put theory to practice immediately. While I was in the advising and counseling class, I could leave one night learning a new theory and the next day see myself using it with students.”

Michaela Pease M.Ed ’16
Higher Education Fellow

“The one thing I loved most about this program was how you can design the year to fit your personal wants and needs. With the flexibility of the program, I was able to become a Teaching Assistant for a undergraduate course, enroll in a directed study, participate in personal and faculty research, and apply all of my previous work experience to what I learned in classes. All of these factors helped me confirm my desire for my short-term goal, which is to enroll into a Doctorate program to continue my lifelong learning and to give me the opportunity to teach and pay my respects forward.”

Phil Coontz M.Ed. ’16
Higher Education Fellow

I chose Merrimack’s Community Engagement Fellowship Program because of it’s unique mission of being community and social justice-based. This is not something that you can find in other programs that often lead to the same field. Between the fellowship experience, one-year timeline, cost efficiency, and value alignment, Merrimack’s CE program was my top choice.

Christina Barry M.Ed ’16
Community Engagement Fellow

“The main reason I chose Merrimack was because I loved the idea of finishing a Masters degree in one year. Now that I have finished, I will say it was definitely the right choice! I really loved the close-knit community feel and the willingness of faculty and staff to answer questions and provide support.”

Sofie Heng M.Ed ’16
Higher Education Fellow

I’ve loved my experience in the fellowship program. I’ve learned so much from both my colleagues at the College and at my school. I’ve had support and guidance that’s allowed me to become a more thoughtful teacher, advocate, and person.

Mallory Johnson M.Ed. ’16
Teacher Education Fellow

Maureen Pasek, Community Partnership for Children

“Merrimack’s Higher Education Fellowship provides a superb opportunity to gain deep experience that will translate into career opportunities in higher education.

Ellen Grondine, Dean of Law, Education and Social Professions,

“The Fellowship Program at Merrimack College has not only allowed students and enriching educational opportunity of a lifetime, it also offers our teachers to know and understand all of the wonderful new things that are happening in education as they work with these talented and dedicated students.
