Bridging the Gaps in Education

On February 12, 2014, Carrie Rose, J.D.
, Executive Director, Parent/Teacher Home Visit Project, will be speaking about positively impacting student performance by encouraging engagement between families and schools.

Rose’s presentation is part of the Building Community, Reaching for Justice Speaker Series, which emphasize opportunities for community engagement experts to discuss critical issues with students and the greater community. This program is possible by the sponsorship of The Town of Andover, Andover Public Schools, Andover Education Association, Community Engagement Graduate Program, the Center for Engaged Democracy, and the School of Education and Social Policy at Merrimack College.

Carrie’s background includes law, community organizing, social services, nonprofit development and owning a small business. She considers herself a “Hopeless optimist about public education.”

Rose will be discussing the Parent/Teacher Home Visit Project’s success in positively impacting student performance by breaking down barriers and bridging the gap between teachers and parents. At this event, Massachusetts partners will also share their success working with the project to improve student achievement.

“Carrie Rose reinforces many of the values we impart here in the School of Education & Social Policy, particularly in the areas of community involvement and educating young people” said Ann Scanlon, M.F.A. Administrative & Events Manager at Merrimack College.

This event is being held at Andover Public Schools, on 36 Bartlett Street, Andover, MA from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00p.m. It is free and open to the public.

The next speaker in the Building Community Reaching for Justice Speaker Series will be Anne Henderson, Ph.D., speaking about How School Districts Can Promote Family Involvement. She will be presenting on Wednesday, March 12, 2014, 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m.
