Random Acts of Kindness
“Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier.”- Mother Theresa
For many college students the week leading up to Valentine’s Day can be filled with mixed emotions- emotions that cause many to spend an inordinate amount of time thinking about themselves. For others, this week is marked with great joy brought about by the selfless desire to make someone else happy through the little things. These people are not necessarily the ones with significant others, but rather the ones that see others as significant. Its Random Acts of Kindness Week 2014…what have you done to make someone else happy this week?
Random acts of kindness are nothing new, but in recent years student groups and other organizations have turned these small and random actions into a formal event or series of events to bring to light the importance of being kind. Here at Merrimack, the Honors Student Council is currently enacting their second annual RAK Week. You may have noticed clothes pins with little affirmations floating around campus. Perhaps you found one on your bag or jacket. That means you have been RAKed. Now, you must pass it on. The HSC has also volunteered to call or email your friends/loved ones a nice message from you through their “care calls” project. The kindness is spreading! In honor of Random Acts of Kindness Week, the Honors Student Council has been participating in this national event by promoting small gestures of kindness across campus. Whether it’s a clothespin compliment, candy on Main St, or a caring message to a friend; any kind deed may just be the help that someone needs!
Honors Student Council planned a series of events that took place during Random Acts of Kindness week. One of the most visible was the spreading of clothes pins that had compliments written on them.
