Homecoming weekend unites Merrimack community

November 09, 2012
More than 4,500 alumni, students, staff, families, and friends returned to the Merrimack College campus to attend this year’s highly-anticipated Homecoming: A Family Weekend, taking place November 2 – 3.

The celebratory weekend kicked off with the Mr. Merrimack pageant, which opened to a nearly sold-out audience in the Rogers Center for the Arts. Guests who were on campus Saturday enjoyed a day jam-packed with a wide array of events and activities ranging from Greek and Student Life reunions, to the Carnival Fun Zone, to the annual Homecoming 5K Run, this year benefitting the Merrimack Haiti Service Learning Initiative. In addition, the ribbon cutting ceremony for the new O’Brien Center for Student Success allowed the Homecoming crowd to catch a glimpse of the new innovative center, focused on experiential learning.

The Homecoming Tailgate, a crowd favorite and growing tradition, brought together alumni and families for a pre-football game celebration of Merrimack pride. Guests competed for prizes in three categories: Most Spirited, Best Tailgate Menu, and Largest Class Year Participation while the Merrimack College Alumni Association Council served as contest judges.

Sold-out crowds cheered at both the Warriors football and men’s ice hockey games as they continued their winning ways, capping off a weekend of outstanding athletic achievement including wins by the women’s field hockey, women’s volleyball, and men’s soccer teams.

Following the sentiments shared by many alumni of the weekend’s festivities, @marymack1 tweeted,

“I guess there’s a reason @Merrimack is still listed as home on my GPS.”
