Taking advantage of Spring Break
The construction team made a lot of progress at the Volpe Expansion Project. The mason has completed the new entrance area and is now working to finish exterior brickwork along the new rink. The Sports Medicine Building was staged for brickwork this week, the last major area of brickwork to complete. Plumbers and electricians continued to work on their rough in while the mechanical contractor put up ductwork in the new lobby area, which is now ready for drywall. Work continued on the view boxes that are now open to the existing rink. The picture below shows the view of the rink from the new boxes. The crew installed 400 sheets of plywood on the existing basketball court floor to enable the sprinkler contractor and painter to drive lifts on the newly refinished parquet; this was a milestone much easier to complete with students off campus! During the College’s shut down for the Easter holiday, generators were brought in and the power to the existing athletic facility was shut off on Wednesday to install new switchgear. Electricians worked until 11:30 PM to get the new switchgear installed and the power turned back on. The construction team was also able to demolish some walls to make all of the connections between the new and existing facility.
