The Office of Planning, Institutional Research, and Assessment conducts several surveys of students to gain insight on their behaviors and engagements and the effectiveness of our programs. Below are the surveys done on an annual basis.
Admitted Student Surveys
Admitted student surveys assess students’ perceptions on various topics. These topics include college characteristics, which colleges the respondent applied to and their preferential order of these institutions, ratings on characteristics of Merrimack College versus peer colleges, financial aid packages compared to peer colleges, demographic information, etc.
National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE)
The NSSE is housed and run through Indiana University-Bloomington’s Center for Postsecondary Research and Planning. It is intended to estimate how undergraduates spend their time and what they gain from attending college through: assessing student engagement, important college outcomes, and institutional quality. This is achieved by benchmarking: academic challenge, learning with peers, experiences with faculty, campus environment. Results of the survey are used to identify and improve aspects of the undergraduate experience inside and outside the classroom through policy and practices changes. The results are also used to monitor progress toward campus goals.
Merrimack’s Student Satisfaction Survey gathers information on undergraduates’ perception of and satisfaction with different aspects of life at Merrimack College. The items are loosely grouped into four different areas-Academics, Administrative Services, Administration, and Campus Life/Services. The data gathered are used for: strategic planning, student retention initiatives, institutional marketing, and monitoring progress toward campus goals.
