Current Undergraduate Student Excels Through Student Government Association

A current senior, Hannah has participated in a great deal of on-campus activities related to her political science major. Hannah has participated in the Student Government Association where she has held multiple roles such as residence life chair and dining chair, as well as being part of the Austin Scholars program. “Austin Scholars has allowed me to give back to surrounding communities in the Merrimack Valley and has shown me the importance of giving back. SGA helped me in making change across campus, and making sure everyone has a voice and is heard.”

One of Hannah’s favorite parts of Merrimack is how personalized attention is inside the classroom, where every student can gain hands-on assistance from faculty members. “You are able to build real connections with faculty members. You feel seen in a more private classroom setting, as opposed to other colleges with huge lecture halls where I felt like a number instead of a person.”

“The second you step on campus for a tour, you are instantly welcomed – that is something I felt like many other colleges lacked.”

“An important lesson a faculty member has taught me was to raise my hand and be present in class discussions. Even if I know I am wrong, it is important to just try. It helps you work through the discussion in class and through being wrong, you find your way to the right answer. I have always been a quiet one in class but this piece of advice helped me to participate more in classes. The one thing I hear from many professors is that their favorite part of their job is helping students and watching them succeed – I find this to be very true. My professors have constantly been there for me, which is something I have been grateful for.”
