Saba Challant
Experience In Charles River Laboratories Helps Merrimack College Student Excel
Saba currently holds an internship position with Charles River Laboratories as a preprocessing technician for animal diagnostics for infectious diseases. She believes her education at Merrimack College prepared her well for her senior-year internship. “So far, this internship has shown me how high-paced a lab environment can be while still being fluid and operational, as well as how critical teamwork is with my coworkers to be able to complete batches of samples for customers on time, which is definitely a change of pace from academic laboratories.”
Challant has developed skills in preparing samples to be tested for infectious diseases, including fecal, body swabs, oral swabs, tissue cultures, and filter samples to be used with PCR throughout her internship experience at Charles River.
“Through my education at both Minuteman High School in the Biotechnology program and Merrimack College’s Biology program, I was well prepared to begin this opportunity.”
In addition to her interest in working within a laboratory environment, Saba is also part of the Atoms Family club on campus at Merrimack College. She hopes that this internship “develops into a part-time job while I complete my senior year.”
