Concert Band

We welcome all wind, string and percussion instruments with no audition required. This is an engaged and motivated space if you want to play more classical pieces composed for concert band settings. We rehearse one night a week and perform two concerts each year, including a winter concert (Christmas and classical pieces) and a spring concert (pop tunes and medleys from popular video  games/movies). This can be taken as an elective course.

Marching Band

Love to march and play? Led by our Visual and Performing Arts Department, our marching band accompanies our Division I athletics program. Launched in 2020, you can be member of this exciting and important opportunity. We offer band scholarships for talented musicians.

Concert Choir

The Concert Choir sings a full range of SATB ( Soprano Alto Tenor Bass) vocal music, from classical to spirituals to non-Western songs to pop. It is the oldest student organization on campus, established in fall 1947. Merrimack College has a rich tradition of choral music, with choirs taking a leading role at ceremonies on and off campus, including singing at the Vatican for Saint John Paul II.  This can be taken as an elective course.

Schola Choir and Liturgical Ensemble

As part of the Schola Choir and Liturgical Ensemble, you will lead music at student Masses on campus, and at special concerts and liturgies, such as the popular Christmas Lessons and Carols service. Student instrumentalists, such as guitarists and percussionists, are also part of the ensemble and play a vital role in supporting the singing at our liturgies.  This may be taken as an elective course.

Jazz Ensemble

This is an opportunity to learn the fundamentals of improvisation while also playing in a section using sheet music. We perform onstage at the Rogers Center for the Arts twice a year and at other events on campus. We rehearse once a week, and this ensemble can be taken as an elective course.

Pep Band

We represent the sound and spirit of the Merrimack student body. Open to all majors, our instrumental group rehearses once a week with no audition required. We perform at all men’s and women’s Division I home and playoff hockey games, as well as Homecoming weekend and select football and basketball games. With pop music that ranges from OneRepublic’s “Counting Stars” to “Walking on Sunshine” by Katrina and the Waves, we create a fun and exciting atmosphere. This may be taken as an elective course.

A Cappella Groups

At Merrimack College, you can be part of a thriving collegiate a cappella group. We currently sponsor Mackappella (SATB), which is organized and directed by their student leaders. Mackappella holds auditions in September and performs throughout the academic year. You will have opportunities to sing, arrange, choreograph and direct as part of this group. You will also experience the camaraderie and friendship of collegiate a cappella.

OnStagers Dramatic Society

The OnStagers Dramatic Society is proud to be Merrimack’s oldest student organization whose mission is to foster, teach and advance the performing arts at Merrimack. We produce two major theatre shows a year, and look for students of all majors who have an interest in theatre to participate in all aspects of our productions, from technical theatre roles backstage to performing onstage. Certain OnStagers productions can be taken for course credit.

Some of our productions include Drowsy Chaperone; Addams Family; Noises Off; The Mystery of Edwin Drood; My Fair Lady; I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change; Avenue Q; Black Comedy; and Next to Normal
