Position Description: 

The Associate Athletic Director for Non Varsity Programs is a full time, twelve month position working with all club sports teams as well as complete oversight of the Campus Fitness Center and Recreation Center, intramurals and fitness programs.

Position Responsibilities:

  1. Oversee the recruitment of all club sport athletes into Merrimack College.
  2. Work closely with Undergraduate Admissions to ensure that proper notification and communication is given to all prospective club sport athletes.  This includes assisting with open houses, accepted student days, virtual presentations, virtual Q&A’s and other various admission events.
  3. Collaborate with College Marketing and Communications on a cohesive marketing plan regarding club sports teams and operations including logos, website, social media and other areas in order to promote the College and club sports.
  4. Responsible for the development of all recreation programs, coordination and operations.  This includes but is not limited to evaluating each sport and program offerings on a yearly basis.
  5. Work with Human Resources on the hiring and onboarding of club sport coaches, ensuring that coaches are properly compensated, trained and an official part of the Merrimack College workforce.
  6. Ensure that Merrimack College Recreation and Club Sports has a close connection/contract with a respectable vendor regarding equipment and apparel.
  7. Ensure that all teams have apparel websites and are outfitted properly and safely.
  8. Oversee the management and operations of the Merrimack College Bowling Alley.
  9. Facilitate the usage of the Golf Simulator in Merrimack College Student Union.
  10.  Provide a robust calendar of events for all recreation areas (club sports, fitness class, eSports, intramurals and general recreation tournaments and competition for Merrimack College students).
  11. Schedule all of the practices and majority of game schedules for all club sport teams.
  12. Work closely with the appropriate campus partner or contracted vendor to ensure that teams have proper bus or van transportation to and from selected events.  This includes giving the vendor representative the pick up location and time, drop off location and time and if necessary the additional overnight accommodations.
  13. Manage budgets for the entire department, facility and all club sports teams.  This includes overseeing all fundraising opportunities, expenses and dues collections.
  14.  Utilize Slate to communicate with prospective students.  This also includes running lists/queries of prospective students for coaches and teams to remain in constant communication.
  15. Oversee all Club Sports & Recreation staff and club sports coaches.
  16.  Hold weekly staff meetings to go over scheduling, any issues, etc.
  17. Coordinate call nights for all club sports teams to speak with prospective students.
  18. Hold informational sessions for club sports teams at the beginning of each semester.
  19.  Prepare all reports regarding club sports activities, retention and recruitment.
  20. Attend all meetings pertaining to retention and recruitment as well as all other necessary weekly meetings.
  21.  Attend certain club sports home games as well as away playoff games and competitions.
  22.  Represent Merrimack College with the highest level of professionalism and integrity.
  23.  Fulfill other specific areas of responsibility to be assigned by the Director of Athletics.

Position Qualifications:

  •       Masters degree from an accredited college or university
  •       CPR/First Aid Certified
  •       8-10 years’ experience in Recreation
  •       RCRSP preferred
  •       Excellent interpersonal skills; strong verbal and written communication skills
  •       Strong administrative and organizational skills; ability to prioritize and complete tasks by established deadlines
