Thank you for your interest in attending the “JOY: A Path for Teacher & Student Well-Being“ workshop on Tuesday, January 28, 2025 from 4:30-5:30 PM EST via the Zoom platform. All workshops in this series will be fully on Zoom. This workshop will be facilitated by Margaret Carr. This first workshop is part one of a five-part series.
Series Content: Come get your monthly dose of JOY this school year by participating in this workshop to learn about Finnish strategies to prioritize joy in teaching and learning. Research indicates that experiencing joy will promote teacher and student well-being and build resiliency in the profession. Given the current climate of education brimming with stress, teachers everywhere would benefit from using simple, straightforward approaches to incorporate joy into their teaching. Research suggests that students are more engaged in learning, and behaviors including those associated with ADHD and ADD have the potential to be significantly reduced in the classroom. It is time to consider teacher and student needs for well-being. Finnish children top the charts year after year on international measures of academic achievement and on measures of happiness and well-being. In this workshop, you will discover ways to integrate Finnish strategies for joy into your own classroom practice. All children deserve to experience joy when learning. All teachers deserve to experience joy when teaching. Teaching in American schools is a profession fraught with challenges, stress, and difficulties. Let joy be your guide for well-being and let joy be your path to resiliency.
Please note that all workshops in this five-part series are standalone, so we encourage you to come to the ones that best fit your needs and schedule. Certificates of participation will be provided to you following each workshop.
This event is free and open to Merrimack College students, alumni, and the external community. Please register below to secure your spot and to receive additional details and logistics closer to the event (i.e. Zoom link).
