The Boston Sculptors Gallery was established back in 1992 as a way to provide sculptors in the region opportunities to showcase their work. It quickly became known in the Boston area as “the most innovative gallery around,” as described by the Boston Globe. What makes this gallery unique is its model of member support. Most commercial galleries operate with an air of competition between artists, where only a few selected works end up displayed. The Boston Sculptors Gallery operates in opposition to this idea, holding the belief that sharing resources and opportunities allows artists to thrive. Members have their work displayed every 24-30 months, giving all the ability to be seen and displayed professionally.Currently, there are 37 members, one of which is Merrimack’s very own professor Johnathan Latiano, MFA.
The Gallery is located at 486 Harrison Avenue in Boston where two members’ works are on exhibition. A list of all past, current, and upcoming exhibitions can be found on the website. The hours of operation are Wednesday through Sunday from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. With restrictions due to Covid-19, there is a ten-person limit inside the gallery and masks must be worn at all times. Appointments outside the normal operating hours can be made to visit the gallery or arrange a meeting with the individual artist, by emailing bostonsculptors@gmail.com. All events are free and open to the public. Professor Latiano will participate in several group exhibitions in the Boston Sculptors Gallery this year. His first solo exhibition is set for September of 2022.
