Memories are Just Pictures is my first-ever album. When I sat down at the piano for the first time to start, I had no idea what I wanted my album to be about. I had a lot of thoughts, but none that felt right yet. I remember sitting there at the piano with my eyes closed, hoping for anything I could use as inspiration to start writing. All I could think about was trains. I imagined myself, sitting on a train, leaving college, and going out into this new world completely idealess. And then it hit me, and I started to write.
The first track on the album was the first one I wrote, “Get Away Train,” and it became the theme for this project. I wanted to make something many people could relate to, and while not everyone can relate to my specific memoirs, they could relate, or connect, with a picture. Therefore, every memory I wanted to write about I imagined as a photo, a snapshot in time. Next, I wrote a song based on the feeling and mood of the picture in my head. It was a new process, but one that produced results I am so proud of. I hope that you enjoy listening to this album as much as I enjoyed making it.
