Massachusetts State Flag Redesign

This capstone project is all about combining my love of design and history. My project is four flag designs I created for a proposed redesign of the Massachusetts state flag. I created these designs by utilizing research, iteration, interviews, and looking at other designed flags. This topic is being discussed in MA and in many other US states.

My project includes four flag designs, infographics, an informational pamphlet, and a video of my interviews. The design process is laid out in my process book filled with many other designs.

My senior capstone project is all about giving much-needed attention to the issue of state flag design. The United States of America, and every citizen living in a state, should have a flag that is a good representation of the people who live there. Some states have already had a flag redesign that honors its history, while creating a new simple design for it’s people. State seals are for the government, they are not for flags as they suffer from having logos inside a seal making it too hard to read from a distance. Flags must be simple and have clear symbols in order to achieve their purpose. Flags are meant to be seen from a distance when they are being blown in the wind or at rest. I researched my home state of Massachusetts. I focused on four flag redesigns so I can deliver four designs for people to vote on and provide feedback.
