My project is an art therapy program. I wanted to create this out of my love of the arts and the creativity expressed by my peers at NAGLY, the North Shore Alliance of GLBTQ+ Youth. I aim to be able to help youths and young adults create their own masterpieces, alongside being able to build up their self confidence with themselves and their work.
Through my internship at Nagly, I have found that more recently than ever, a lot of kids, adolescents, and young adults in the LGBTQ+ community are dealing with a lot of stress surrounding the current laws being enacted in other states that would infringe upon their rights. In light of this, I have created, directed, and started an art therapy program dedicated to being a distraction from the noise of bigotry, with goals to improve self confidence, alongside honing one’s skills in the art field. My project is a self-driven program dedicated to giving youth a space to be able to express themselves artistically in a safe and brave environment.
