Currently Showing: reVisions
By Michelle Lougee
February 2 – March 22, 2024
The McCoy Art Gallery at Merrimack College proudly presents, reVisions, an exhibition of works by Michelle Lougee.
Opening reception: Friday, February 9th @ 5:30pm
Plastics are horrifying, but beguiling materials. They are ever-present and miraculous, life saving yet life threatening, essential but overused and disposable. In the face of devastating environmental change, the works presented in reVisions are composed mainly of post-consumer plastic and examine the relationships between humans, plastic, and nature. From the “Souvenirs” (a product of modern foraging) made from upcycled blister packages, to the “Onesies” crafted from industrial shrink-wrap, to the textural collage drawings formed from plastic bags and other materials, the works presented in this exhibition are ghostly and ethereal, evoking associations between the precariousness of the environment and our collective future.
As our species teeters on the edge of disaster, reVisions examines our current overconsumption of these dangerous materials, and what might be our last chance to prevent the worst of the coming climate catastrophe.
